EsquireX is an online platform that matches law firms seeking support with attorneys seeking work and mentorship. Law firms post specific legal projects, and lawyers looking for work submit proposals to complete the projects. The entire process is done online, from the initial post all the way to invoicing and payment. Created for lawyers, by lawyers, EsquireX is revolutionizing the way attorneys practice law today.
EsquireX is free to join for all licensed U.S. lawyers and law firms. Law practices get free access to our system and pay a small subscription fee only to post jobs (There is a 3% fee from the payment processor for each transaction). There are no additional EsquireX fees. Hiring Lawyers looking to hire Freelance Lawyers will agree upon and pay the Project Lawyer directly. Attorneys for Hire looking for project work can join and browse open projects at no cost.
Some websites and services provide “lawyer referral networks” to connect the general public to lawyers in their area for representation. EsquireX is not a lawyer referral network. We connect legal professionals with each other for project-based legal work. If you need help seeking legal representation, we recommend checking with your local or state bar association.
No. EsquireX simply connects lawyers with each other for project-based legal work. EsquireX is more flexible and affordable than recruiting or staffing agencies, presenting less financial risk and faster turnaround time to your practice.
While EsquireX is not a recruiting service, we do provide you a unique opportunity to help you find qualified candidates for your practice. By posting project work, you can screen potential hires to see how they perform on common tasks they would be accomplishing while working with you. By posting multiple projects, you can work with a variety of candidates, allowing you to base your hiring decision off of real results from their project work. Once you have selected a candidate, EsquireX does not charge a recruiting fee; you’ll simply pay the 3% EsquireX fee for the project work they have completed.
It is free to join and browse projects. The fee to the Hiring Lawyer to post a project will be small subscription fee. Hiring Lawyers and Freelance Lawyers agree on their own fee terms either in a one time project fee or hourly rate. Both parties will use the platform to pay the invoice at a cost of 3% processing fee of the total invoice amount.

Whether you are looking for help or looking for work, EsquireX makes the process easy:
EsquireX hosts legal project work in a variety of areas. The most common types of work we see include drafting, research, review, appearances, and client interaction.
No. Hiring Lawyers can indicate whether work needs to be completed on-site or if it can be done remotely. This means you can find work throughout the country or locally to you!
Hiring lawyers will indicate if a certain State registration is required for their projects. In most cases, a freelance lawyer does not need to be licensed in the state where the project’s client is, since the hiring lawyer will be licensed there and is overseeing the work.If finding a project in a specific location is important to you, EsquireX allows you to filter your search by state.
EsquireX provides a rating system for both hiring and project lawyers to leave feedback once a project is complete. This provides peace of mind for both parties. Each user also has a personal profile with their degree information, in-depth questions/answers, work examples, license verifications, and even personal references! You may also upload documents such as resumes and work samples.
The Hiring Lawyer needs to disclose whether they have a policy that covers another lawyer working with them on a project basis. If they don’t, they will make the project lawyer aware of that. Most policies today cover part-time, freelance, and project based work under the same conditions as your full-time associates - mainly that the work is overseen by the senior lawyer before it goes out to the client.
Hiring Lawyers are able to hire one Freelance Lawyer per job. They can create as many jobs they need for their legal project.
EsquireX follows the current best practices regarding identity theft, using the same fraud and theft prevention processes most commonly used in the financial industry.
Each Freelance Lawyer or Hiring Attorney is required to sign up for Stripe which helps verify their identity through their existing banking relationship. If an identity has been compromised, it will be detected at this point and addressed by our team. We also conduct periodic reviews of the credentials of existing members to verify continued good standing with the bar.
The consensus under the ABA rules is that the payment of fees to project-based or temporary lawyers is not a division of fees, provided the fee is not contingent on the clients’ payment of a fee to the Hiring Lawyer or on the outcome of the matter. EsquireX provides the option of fees to be paid either on an hourly or flat fee basis and does not allow for contingent fee arrangements. Therefore, any fees invoiced or paid through EsquireX will be compliant with ABA rules.
